The first title appear is for New line cinema, is an American film studio founded in 1967 by Robert Shaye as a film distribution company, later becoming an independent film studio. New line cinema haven't done any psychological thriller films before, they have mostly done films such as the lord of the rings and the hobbit trilogy which are fantasy and adventure films. The company that made this. This company is made by Warner Brothers. This company has a long and successful history of producing critically acclaimed hit films that meet with both mainstream and niche audiences around the world. The most famous psychological thriller that New Line Cinema have done is A nightmare on Elm Street which is one of the most well known films in its genre, so people will expect films such as Se7en which is also a psychological thriller to live up to the same standard as they had done for A nightmare on Elm Street.
Another title shown says 'produced by David Fincher' David Fincher is an American film studio founded in 1967 by Robert Shaye as a film distribution company, later becoming an independent film studio. He has produced other psychological thrillers such as panic room and fight club which also has Brad Pitt which shows he favors the actor, this could work well for both because if you like Brad Pitts role in the other film or David Finches films then there is more of a chance that you will want to watch that film when it comes out.
They use a lot of peoples names in the title for even the small roles such as the people who had done the casting and costume making for the film, these would usually be in the end credits of a film so this is unique.
The title for the film uses a play in words because they write it as "Se7en" which is replacing the v with a 7. This is effective as it gives a better and unique title other than the standard 'seven' title. Seven also relates to the idea of seven being a bad and unlucky number, which the whole film takes place after. The 7 could mean the seven deadly sins which all represent negative things were the subjective is dominating the objective which is the person, the seven deadly sins are normally wrath, greed, sloth, pride, lust, envy, and gluttony.
The titles could actually be supposed to be somebody's hand writing which links to the diary and notes on the pieces of paper shown between the titles, the white font of the text also stands out a lot on the black background, the text also has a flickering effect when it is displayed on the shots. When they are not using the handwritten scruffy font they use the Helvetica font for the other part. The sketchy and sharp font tells the audience that the film could be of the psychological thriller or horror genre. The text also glitches and shifts around the same spot repeatedly. This could signify some kind of disorder that makes someone fidgety and paranoid.
